Where Do I Go? ~ Neta Jackson

December 18th, 2008 by vicki

Here is my friend, JH’s review of Where Do I Go? ~

Gabby Fairbanks and her husband Philip seem to have it all by the world’s standards.  It quickly becomes evident that isn’t the case.

It seems there is one thing after another with Gabby as she searches for God.  She has a compassionate heart for those less fortunate than herself.  How is it that sometimes those who have nothing by the world’s standards are so rich?

The relationship that Gabby and Philip have is very interesting.  I’m on her side.  What is she going to do with that man?!!

Side note:  The Yada Yada Prayer Group series truly helped me grow in my prayer life.  Reading about how these women took everything to God, big and small, was a very real example to me.  I highly recommend that series also.

About the Author ~

As a husband/wife writing team, Dave and Neta Jackson are enthusiastic about books, kids, walking with God, gospel music, and each other! Together they are the authors or coauthors of over 100 books. In addition to writing several books about Christian community, the Jacksons have coauthored numerous books with expert resource people on a variety of topics from racial reconciliation to medical ethics to ministry to kids in gangs. Engaging Father Christmas ~ Robin Jones Gunn

December 10th, 2008 by vicki

My friend, L.A., has written such an excellent review of Robin Jones Gunn’s novel, Engaging Father Christmas, that I’m going to set aside my writing deadlines for a day of luxurious reading. I mean, really, how could I NOT after reading the following review?

I’m so glad I picked this book. I was hoping it would lift me out of my own circumstances and make me feel good, and it really did. I found myself transported to England at Christmastime, and I loved the descriptive touches that made me feel like I was right there: the quaint and aptly-named Tea Cosy, the elegantly-decorated mansion, the glorious star-filled winter night sky with…. oops, don’t want to give anything away!  It’s a sweet story that took me in, welcomed me, and warmed my heart right along with Miranda, the main character. There’s a little suspense thrown into the mix as well. The characters are very likeable, and their unselfishness and love for the Lord shines through in their actions. Engaging Father Christmas is a stand-alone book, but I came away feeling like I wanted to know the characters even better. So I was delighted to discover that this is actually the second in a series, although I didn’t know that for sure until after I had finished it. Finding Father Christmas is the first book and I will definitely be reading that one, as well as any future books from the Father Christmas series!  L.A. Read the rest of this entry »

Santa Baby … According to Caleb

December 7th, 2008 by vicki

This weekend ignited the Tiede family for the Advent season. While we celebrated Christmas with my family over Thanksgiving, and the tree has officially been up for 2 weeks already (Yes, I know that’s crazy), this is the weekend that jump started our holiday spirits.

Friday night Mike and the kids went to Rosemount for Kadi’s basketball game. Mike took half the day off to be the parent on duty this time. The Defenders won and everyone had a great time. Mom and I had the privilege of speaking for our local Down Syndrome Parent Support Group. Mom spoke as a parent with 43 years parenting experience with a Down Syndrome son and I spoke as the sibling. it was such a precious time. Read the rest of this entry »

Dark Pursuit ~ Brandilyn Collins

December 3rd, 2008 by vicki

Most of my readers know that my life is on the fast track right now, so I have recruited three friends of mine who are avid readers, to review CFBA books for me and share their thoughts. This week I have a short review from a younger reader … RH is 14 and here’s what she had to say about Dark Pursuit :

This story was very interesting.  I loved the plot and how the characters relied on God during tough times.  The book helped me remember that no matter how horrible things may be, God will see me through.

I also liked that the grandfather finally took time and realized that family is more important than books, fame, and money.

I thought that I had the ending figured out but I was wrong!  I also enjoyed how the King of Suspense is writing again!     ~RH Read the rest of this entry »
